Leadership can be understood as “a process of social influence in which one person can enlist the aid and support of others in the accomplishment of a common task”. So what makes a leader?
This interactive workshop “Leadership Skills” will outline the tools, skills, traits, attitudes, and behaviour that are useful in becoming an effective leader. The course highlights the advantages and disadvantages of different management and leadership styles and gives opportunity to reflect upon leadership role expectations and one’s own conception as a leader.

Dr. Sabine Küsters, Institut für Internationale Kommunikation e.V., can draw on a many years of experience in training, coaching and consulting in effective presentation, successful negotiation and team building, for leading with heart and mind.

Crucial for the academic career of a young scientist in the university context is both to sharpen the scientific profile (scientific positioning, third-party funding acquisition, conference participation) and to form the necessary networks (relevant stakeholders and gatekeepers, professional collaboration in the context of publications, research participation between cooperation and competition). Nevertheless, personal challenges come with the fixed-term nature of contracts, the self-critical observation of one's progress, and the formulation of the relationship’s structure future. Depending on the professional culture and the relationship’s structure, this can create pleasant and unpleasant situations or stress. In this coaching, the participants can find out how it is possible to maintain successful self-assertion, academic positioning, and professional attitude in this phase of life.
